It’s not easy to fully recognize
the effect of unemployment. For years we have seen how unemployment has caused
a high rate of poverty in South Africa. The misinformation on unemployment in South Africa is that foreign nationals take majority of the jobs in the country, which we think is false. Many
South Africans were not skilled enough or educated enough to be employed and
this was and partly still is as a result of the unjust laws of apartheid.
The absence
of expertise or education led to most people turning to crime as a way to generate
income and feed their families. Most people especially youths have acquired an
education over the years but it’s still difficult to find a decent job. Kaku Initiative
Enterprise is a society group that focuses on shaping policies in the youth job
prosperity, equality and opportunity. We do this by helping youths in the society
look for jobs, educating them on entrepreneurship and providing them an
opportunity to better their skills in computing by offering training. If we
keep our youths informed and active it will help us keep them off the street.
Unemployment is the number
one leader of poverty in South Africa. The current unemployment rate in the
country is now 32.5%. South Africa's official unemployment rate has risen to
32.5%, in line with expectations of economists'. Statistics South Africa (Stats
SA) claim that the level of unemployment has increased due to more people
joining the labour force. This means that 7.2 million South Africans do not
have jobs. The high unemployment rate in South Africa has a huge impact on the
extreme poverty seen in this country especially now during the pandemic were people
have lost their jobs. Unemployment not only connected to poverty in SA but is also
linked to high increase of HIV and Aids and depression. Many people travel from
rural areas to Johannesburg and other urban cities to seek for greener
pastures. People moving to urban areas to seek employment has made it harder to
get jobs because of stiff competition. Lack of sex education has led some people
to turn to sex in exchange for money in order to feed their loved ones back
home. Unemployment has also led to depression and stress in the community
leading to the substance abuse of alcohol and drugs.

In conclusion we need to
educate the youths in our communities on the importance of education, entrepreneurship
and bettering their skills. It will help empower them to take action and take
ownership of their lives and show them that even when they’re high unemployment
rates in the country they are other ways they could still earn an income
without turning to crime, alcohol or drugs and prostitution.

DeleteThe youth indeed needs to up their game and learn the value of self development + education +entrepreneurship. This article is very impactful and points out an actual issue in South Africa. We really need to stand up and start acting, start working towards bettering ourselves and being business minded. Employment alone is not good enough, one needs to have multiple streams of income and business ideas that they can work on.

DeleteHonestly our youth has to start thinking about how they can make their own business because unemployment is really hitting us hard and there are no jobs so instead of finishing school and doing nothing they should put work in their talents and what they can do best to make a living.

DeleteIndeed unemployment is still a big factor on our country which leads to different unpleasantness such as ending up mugging people on the streets, substance abuse and some teen pregnancy just to get their minds off poverty and distress.
